The word composed from the ancient Greek “Chrysoprase” and literally means “golden leek”. Because of its rarity and distinctive colour, chrysoprase is one of the most valuable and expensive varieties of chalcedony.
The medieval philosopher Albertus Magnus, in his book ‘Secrets and Virtues of Herbs, Stones and Animals’, recounts that Alexander the Great wore a chrysoprase stone in his belt, convinced that its power would ensure him victory in battle.
This stone is of the sign of the Libra.
