On 27 November 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St Catherine Labouré in the convent where the Saint resides; at 140 rue du bar in Paris. She asks her to have a medal struck, explaining in detail what it should look like and promising ‘The people who wear this medal will receive great graces. Graces will be abundant for the people who wear it with confidence.’
